Ten full height shutters for windows in Winchester
We recently installed shutters for a total of ten windows in a new build town house in Winchester. Keeping in with the aesthetics of other properties in this ancient city, the new home included features such as sash windows and white wooden framework.
Our customer Wayne was looking for very clean lines to complement the impressive home, so shutters seemed like the obvious choice. They provide the necessary style, as well as practical benefits such as additional insulation.
Due to the property’s stylish exterior, he wanted a window covering that would look as good from the outside as inside. Although fitted inside the windows, plantation shutters really stand out when viewed from the road, and make a confident design statement.
Working closely Wayne to establish his requirements and style choices, we helped him choose the right shutters for his tastes, including the colour, and material. We helped him settle on the Fiji range, and Pure White as the colour, as they were the closest options to help realise his vision.
Crafted from premium sustainable hard wood, the painted Fiji material is a durable and attractive shutter, available in a broad variety of options. Due to the detailed and intensive manufacturing process, the timber used in Fiji is stable, perfect for a range of different locations throughout the home.
Throughout the home, we had to maintain a fine attention to detail, so that the joins of the shutter panels lined up with the lattice work on the windows.
Fitting full height shutters throughout the house, there were a few minor variations which we discussed, which made the shutters more practical, although did not affect the look our customers were trying to create. For example, we introduced a mid-rail to match up with the horizontals of the sash windows, which also increased the level of light control available with the louvres.
Upstairs, as well as a mid-rail to match the sash, we also introduced a split louvre configuration which resulted in ultimate light control, as the panels can be operated in three different places.
Based on his preferences, and to keep the look of the shutters consistent, the hinges and hardware were chosen in stainless steel. For getting the right balance between light and privacy, the client settled on the 76mm louvres, with a silent (hidden) tilt mechanism helping to keep the clean and contemporary look of the shutters.
